Mats for Kitas, schools and practices

Studio Huske wipeable art mat: two children painting at a table covered edge to edge by the mat

For Kitas, Kindergarten, schools and practices

One surface. Fifteen children. Twenty seconds to reset.

Studio Huske mats are wipeable silicone leather, made for the messiest hour of the day and the minute afterwards when it all has to be cleared. They started in homes. They work harder in a room full of children.

Craft that nobody has to supervise nervously

Paint, glue, playdough, glitter, clay. The surface is non-porous, so nothing soaks in and nothing stays behind. In independent testing the mat scored 5 out of 5 for poster paint and soy sauce, and 4 out of 5 for curry, which is the honest limit.

A plain surface, on purpose

There is no pattern on the mat. With fine motor work there are small pieces everywhere, and a plain surface means a child can see every one of them. It does not add to the overwhelm.

In a room of fifteen that matters more, not less. A patterned rug swallows a bead, a Lego pin, the one piece somebody needs. A plain surface gives it back, and it gives a child a defined edge to their own work at the same time.

The table and the floor are two different jobs

The Wriggle goes on the table as a placemat. The Roam goes under the high chair for everything that misses. A Kita usually needs both.

The reset

Wipe it with a damp cloth. For a bad day, mild soap and water, or put the whole mat in the sink. Machine washable on a gentle cycle if it comes to that. No laundry pile, no drying rack, no waiting.

The surface is non-porous, so nothing soaks in and wiping is a reset rather than a smear. It dries in minutes and goes straight back down, which is the part that decides whether a mat gets used on a Tuesday afternoon or stays in the cupboard.

Why it holds up to institutional use

Silicone leather is a silicone coating on a knitted polyester base. It is not vinyl, not PU and not foam, so there is nothing to peel, crack or off-gas. Tested past 20,000 abrasion cycles, waterproof to over 10,000 mm, and self-extinguishing, with brominated flame retardants screened for and not detected. It stays flexible in the cold and takes a hot baking tray without marking.

OEKO-TEX Standard 100/1 · Non-porous · Self-extinguishing · Waterproof 10,000 mm+ · Abrasion 20,000+ cycles · Two-year guarantee on every mat

Independently tested for more than 30 PFAS compounds, none detected.

Free from PVC, BPA and phthalates. Designed in Switzerland, made in Korea.

Built as a durable good

Both faces are the same silicone coating, finished differently: smooth on top, textured underneath so the mat grips the floor instead of sliding. There is no rubber backing and no separate anti-slip treatment to wear off.

The edges do not curl. The weight is balanced so the mat lies flat from the moment it is put down, which matters when a child is going to walk across it forty times before lunch.

Which mat, for what

Mat Size Price The job it does in a group setting
Wriggle 65 × 37 cm CHF 39 One child's place at the table. Changing surface. The one that lives in a bag on outings.
Roam Square 98 × 98 cm CHF 118 The craft table. Covers a standard desk or half a dining table with no overhang.
Roam Round 105 cm CHF 123 Under the high chair, covering the whole splash zone.
Explore 135 cm CHF 149 Floor work for a small group. Circle time, reading corner, a shared craft station.
Gallivant 135 × 180 cm CHF 178 Garden days, forest days, anything that happens outside.

A simple way to size it: one Wriggle per child at the table, one Roam wherever the eating or the messiest work happens, and one Explore for each group that works on the floor. One Kindergarten's first order was three Wriggles, a Roam Round and an Explore, which covers a table, a chair and a floor circle.

Between uses

They roll or fold flat and stack in a cupboard. Fold lines from packaging fade with use. At 200 g for a Wriggle and 1.1 kg for an Explore, a child can carry their own.

And then somebody carries one outside

The mats did not start outdoors. They start on tables and floors, and then somebody takes one into the garden and it never fully comes back. They fold small enough for a rucksack, they do not mind wet grass, and they warm a little in the sun the way anything left outside does, without harming the mat or the grass underneath.

Forest days

A dry place to sit, put down, and eat from, that packs away smaller than a jacket.

Wet grass, a damp log, a gritty path. The mat goes down over any of it and comes home to be rinsed off rather than laundered. A Wriggle is 200 grams and an Explore is 1.1 kg, so a child can carry their own into the woods and back.

Ordering on invoice

Schools, Kitas and practices can pay by invoice rather than card. At checkout, choose «Invoice (Wholesale/ Education)». The order is confirmed straight away and the invoice follows with bank details and 30-day terms.

If your school or Gemeinde needs a written Offerte before it can raise an order, email hello@studiohuske.com and Kate will send one for the mats you need.

Free shipping within Switzerland on orders over CHF 125.

How ordering works

Five steps, so you can tell your Schulleitung or Gemeinde what to expect before you start.

Step What happens Who
1 Email the mats and quantities you need, or just the size of the group. You
2 An itemised Offerte comes back, with the total and the payment terms on it. Kate
3 The Offerte goes to whoever releases the budget. You
4 Order placed at checkout with «Invoice (Wholesale/ Education)» selected. You
5 Mats ship from Uster. The invoice follows with bank details, due in 30 days. Kate

What your Schulleitung or Gemeinde will ask for

The person who wants the mats is often not the person who releases the money. These are the things that tend to get asked for, and all of them can be in your hands the same day.

  • An itemised Offerte. Mats, quantities, total and payment terms on one page.
  • Certification confirmed in writing. Studio Huske confirms the OEKO-TEX Standard 100/1 certification in writing for your file. Every test result is published openly, including the ones the mats do not top.
  • Payment terms in writing. Invoice on 30-day terms. No card, no account to open.
  • An answer on cost over time. These are a durable good with a two-year guarantee, not a consumable that returns to the budget every year.

Honest limits

  • Silicone shows dust and hair. A shake or a damp wipe clears it.
  • Not the cheapest surface available. It is a durable good, not a consumable.
  • Scissors will cut it. Worth saying out loud before a cutting lesson.
  • It can buckle under a high chair. That is the trade-off for being thin and foldable rather than rigid.
  • No bleach, no vinegar, no solvents. Soap and water, then sunlight for anything stubborn.
  • Fresh from the box it will have fold lines. They fade with use.
