A protective layer for your nerves
Something we don't talk about enough with the mats is the protective layer they give your nerves.
It's the school holidays here at the moment. My dad visited last week, and we always love it when he comes. This week we had more visitors, family from London. Our place isn't really set up for guests, so with 13 weeks of school holidays every year and three intense days at work, I took a friend up on her offer to stay in her apartment while she's travelling in Asia.
Her place is near my old neighbourhood, so it was very nostalgic. I went for a walk with my friend who used to be my neighbour, and for a few nights I was living this parallel, non-kid life.
Not one single speck of dust
Her apartment is beautiful. Not one single speck of dust. Everything is so nicely curated. It's a dream apartment.
Everywhere I sat, I was afraid of damaging something. Which reminded me that I had, crazily, forgotten to pack a mat.
Pack a mat. That's it.
So this is your PSA. If you're staying in a friend's holiday apartment, with grandparents, or in an Airbnb with a big deposit, you just want to be kind and not mess up people's homes. Pack a mat.
That's it. I hope this helps.
The photos you send me
I very often get messages from customers, and from friends who've bought mats, with a picture of the holiday home they're staying in and the mat already down. It makes them one or two levels less anxious about the beautiful place they're in. I love getting those photos, because I completely understand it.

Which mat to pack
Wriggle is the one that travels easiest. It's 65 x 37 cm, weighs 200 g and folds flat into any bag. It goes on the table under a plate, on a desk, or over a bed or sofa as a changing surface.
If a little one needs floor space, Roam Round (105 cm, 680 g) goes under the high chair, or becomes a play space in a hotel room or at the grandparents'. It folds too.
Both are waterproof and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
