A splat mat catches the mess so your floor does not have to. Studio Huske splat mats are made from silicone leather. Pick up, shake over the bin, rinse in the sink. That is it.
Unlike fabric splat mats that need washing after every meal, or vinyl mats that curl at the edges and say "avoid folding" on the care label, silicone leather lies flat, folds for storage, and does not absorb a thing.
Weaning starts as a lovely idea and turns into a floor you keep apologising to. After a few weeks of that, the messy foods quietly stop being offered and the baby gets the safe ones, which is a shame, because the mess is how they learn. What makes a good splat mat?
It needs to stay flat (no tripping on curled edges), resist staining from food and paint, clean without effort, and look decent in your kitchen. Silicone leather does all four. It was produced and certified non-toxic under OEKO-TEX Standard 100/1 and vinyl-free, so your child's high chair is not sitting on a PVC sheet.
Beyond the high chair
Splat mats are not just for mealtimes. Parents use them under craft tables, as a base for sensory play, beneath potty training chairs, and anywhere else small children create chaos. Because silicone leather does not absorb liquids, every mess stays on the surface where you can see it and wipe it up.
Cleaning and care
After mealtimes, shake off food debris and wipe with a damp cloth. For stickier messes, rinse under the tap with a drop of soap. For stubborn marks like beetroot or curry, a paste of baking soda and water works. Do not use bleach.

Is this the same as a high chair mat?
Yes. Splat mat, high chair mat, splash mat, messy mat. Different names, same purpose. Ours are made from silicone leather instead of fabric or vinyl.
Can I use it for crafts too?
Yes. Paint, glue, plaster, glitter. Everything wipes off without staining. Many parents keep one under the high chair and one on the craft table.
Best splat mat for BLW?

Does it curl at the edges like vinyl mats?
