Five years of Studio Huske: a mat against the chaos at the family table
What began during the pandemic as frustration with endless laundry and cluttered homes is today a Swiss design brand for wipeable mealtime, craft and picnic mats.
Uster, 25 October 2026. During the pandemic, Kate Gannon was stuck at home like many families. Her son was learning to eat by himself, the kitchen table was covered in crafts, and the laundry never ended. Her friends all had the same complaint: everything meant to protect the table and the floor from the chaos made the home look even more cluttered.
The architect by training went looking for a better solution. In November 2020 she wrote to a material maker, and her first question was whether the material was certified as skin-safe. The result was mats made of silicone leather that are waterproof and wipeable, fold up to take along, and look good enough to simply stay out. Kate Gannon has sold them as Studio Huske since September 2021.

Today the range has five mats. The small Wriggle (65 x 37 cm, CHF 39) works as a placemat on the dining table and as a changing mat on the go. Roam Round (105 cm diameter, CHF 123) and Roam Square (98 x 98 cm, CHF 118) catch what misses the plate under the high chair and protect the craft table. The large Explore (135 cm diameter, CHF 149) and Gallivant XL (135 x 180 cm, CHF 178) come along to the meadow, the lake and the picnic. Many families buy the mat for the high chair and later take it outside.
The surface is certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100/1. The mats are designed in Switzerland and made in Korea, and are available at studiohuske.com.

About the brand
Studio Huske was founded in 2021 by Kate Gannon, an architect by training. The idea came during the pandemic, at home with a son learning to eat and a kitchen table full of crafts. The laundry never stopped, and she and her friends kept saying the same thing: everything sold to protect the table and the floor made the home look more cluttered. She went looking for something better. Her first question to a material maker, in November 2020, was whether the material was certified skin-safe. Studio Huske turned five in September 2026.
The mats are flat, single-piece, and quiet enough to live on a kitchen table and light enough to take to the beach. The brand was built around mats that work indoors and outdoors.
What makes the material different
Silicone leather is a silicone coating on a knitted polyester base. Not polyurethane, not foam. The mats are designed in Switzerland and made in Korea, and the surface is produced and certified under OEKO-TEX Standard 100/1, the tier written for products in direct contact with babies. No PVC, no BPA, no phthalates, no formamide, no off-gassing. Non-porous, so liquids sit on the surface instead of soaking in.

Kate Gannon
Kate Gannon is the founder and sole operator of Studio Huske. Architect by training, Irish-born, mother of two, based in Uster near Zurich. She has used Studio Huske mats in daily family life since the 2021 launch.
I could not find a high quality waterproof mat anywhere, so I designed one.

So far our mats have been battered with acrylic paint, spray paint, concrete, plaster, and every glitter and craft glue possible, and so far the mat has wiped clean perfectly every time.
