What this mat is made of
This is silicone leather. Not PU. Not PVC. Not vinyl. Not the "vegan leather" that peels after 18 months.
Silicone leather is made from quartz sand, bonded to a fibre fabric. The surface is 100% silicone, the same grade used in infant pacifiers. It doesn’t off-gas, doesn’t absorb liquids, doesn’t harbour mould. It’s heat-proof, won’t crack or fade if left outside in cold or sun, and stain-resistant to food, paint, adhesives, and ballpoint pen.
That last one matters. This is a craft mat. It needs to handle everything a child (or an adult) can throw at it. Silicone leather does, without absorbing a thing.

Two sides, two jobs

It arrives with fold lines.
All folded mats do. Lay it flat on the table and use it. The creases fade with use, not just time. Daily craft sessions sort it out within a week.
It can bunch on thick carpet.
The Roam Square sits best on hard floors, tables, and thin rugs. On thick carpet, smooth it flat when you lay it down. The 750g weight helps it stay put on most surfaces.
One reviewer wished it were rectangular.
Fair point. Square was chosen because it covers desks and square tables without overhang. For wider splash coverage under high chairs, the Roam Round (105 cm ø) catches more from the sides.

Care instructions
Daily cleaning: Wipe with a damp cloth or wet wipe.
After crafts: Wipe paint and glue off promptly. Most substances lift easily from silicone.
Stubborn marks: Gentle soap and water.
Deep clean: Hand-wash gently. You can machine wash on your most gentle cycle (wool/delicates), but for maximum longevity, hand-wash.
Heat-proof: You can iron on it, place hot baking trays on it, use it as a surface for anything household-hot. The only exception: red-hot coals (BBQ embers) will burn through.
Do not: Dishwasher. High heat + food residue can coat the silicone surface with a film. If someone puts it in the dishwasher by mistake: submerge the mat in a pot of gently boiled water with washing-up liquid for 30 minutes, then rinse. The film lifts off.
Storage: Roll rather than fold to minimise creasing. Fine to store it damp for daily use. For longer storage, let it dry fully first. Or just leave it on the table.
Non-slip side: Always faces down. Will collect dust and hair (that’s it gripping). The fastest way to clean the grip side: submerge the mat in water. Dust, lint, and craft debris release instantly. Much quicker than wiping. On polished wood floors, clean periodically.

Will acrylic paint stain it?
No. Silicone leather resists staining from acrylic, watercolour, and most craft materials. Wipe promptly for best results. Unlike PU leather, it won’t absorb pigments.
Can I use it under a high chair?
Yes. Same function as the Roam Round but with square edges that sit neater in some kitchen layouts. 98 cm covers the core splash zone.
Is it safe for kids to touch while eating?
OEKO-TEX Class 1 is the strictest textile safety certification, tested for harmful substances and approved for direct contact with baby skin. The silicone itself is the same grade used in infant pacifiers.
Will it slide on the table during crafts?
The non-slip underside grips hard surfaces well. At 750g it stays put during even enthusiastic painting sessions.
Can I cut it to fit a specific table?
We don’t recommend cutting. The sealed edge prevents fraying. If you need a different shape, check the Roam Round (105 cm circle) or Wriggle (65 x 37 cm rectangle).
Does it smell?
No. Silicone leather is VOC-free. No chemical smell, even in a warm room.
