Duplo Block Abstract Kid's Posters

TL;DR

I built abstract animal and fruit figures out of Duplo blocks, photographed them, and turned them into printable posters. My kids named the first two "The Fox" and "The Camel". They are available as digital downloads for CHF 5.

The two modular toys my sons play with the most are Lego Duplo and Playmobil. Over the summer I set out to make a "build book" of abstract Duplo figures, to get them into guided play with their favourite blocks. It was a hit.

From build book to wall art

Since they liked the figures and started making their own, I decided to hang a few as posters in their room. I printed them with Wir Machen Druck in Switzerland, sized to fit a 500 x 700 mm wooden frame from Jumbo, on 250g matt paper. They let you combine different prints in one order, so the pricing is good for the quality.

The first three I printed were immediately christened "The Fox" and "The Camel". The fruit figure was inspired by Enzo Mari's iconic apple and pear print, Tre, La Mela e La Pera.

The prints show scuffs and scratches on our much-used second-hand blocks, and the occasional remnant of a snack. I left those in deliberately. They add texture and memory.

Once I started sharing these on Instagram, a few people asked for digital downloads. So here they are. The price is set at a "buy me a coffee" level. It is a nice side project for me while the physical product development process, which is slow, nuanced and expensive, takes its course.

The collection

All five are CHF 5 each as digital downloads. Print them at home or at a local print shop. The Fox also has a free version if you want to try one first.

Printing tips

I print on 250g matt paper at 500 x 700 mm. Any local or online print service will handle this. Matt paper works better than gloss for children's rooms because it does not reflect light and fingerprints are less visible.

The files are high resolution, so you can scale them down for smaller frames without losing quality. A2 and A3 also look good.
